Troubleshooting a Corrupt Simio File

An error might appear when opening the file that indicates the file could be corrupt. Use the steps below to troubleshoot a corrupt file.

    1. Verify you are using the correct version of Simio for the file. You will want to ensure you are using the same or a newer version of Simio with the file you are opening.
    2. If this is a file you downloaded from some location to your computer, try downloading the file again. The file might not have downloaded correctly.
    3. Check if this file was saved in a location that tracks revisions. See if an older revision is available before the file became corrupt.
    4. Check for a backup file.
      1. Simio will save a backup with the same name of the project file and in the same directory. This backup file is updated with each save of the project file. To revert to the backup file, find the file with the same name as the project file but with the .backup extension. Change the extension to .spfx and attempt to open the file with Simio.
    5. Attempt to recover the corrupt file.
      1. Create a copy of the corrupt file. In the file explorer, change the .spfx extension of the file to a .zip. Now, as a zip folder, attempt to go into the .zip folder.
        1. If you are able to open the .zip folder, there is likely a data issue. Please send the .zip folder to our Support team by logging a Product Support case.
      2. If you are not able to open the .zip, use a tool to attempt to fix the .zip. Grab DiskInternals Zip Repair tool here: https://www.diskinternals.com/zip-repair/ and follow the prompts to fix the .zip.
        1. If this fails, please send the .zip folder to our Product Support team by logging a product support case.
      3. If the .zip repair succeeds, change the repaired .zip back to a .spfx extension.
      4. As a .spfx, attempt to open the file in Simio. If it opens, make sure to save another version of the file, close, and open the file again to ensure it works.
        1. If the .spfx does not open in Simio, please send the file to our Support team by logging a Product support case.
Important: If the file can be recovered, some of the data, properties, or other items in the model might be missing or set to different values. You will want to look through your model and verify it is working as intended.
Note: There is a small chance the Technical Support team can help recover your file. We recommend periodically saving off your project to different files as you make progress. Then, you can have a collection of files marking the progress of a project. This is beneficial if you need to go back to an earlier point before a certain change was made or if something happens where work is lost.
